Contractor Hock Seng Lee (HSL) has received a letter of acceptance for the project, which is part of a US$2.7 billion scheme that includes upgrades for the coastal road, a second trunk road and water supply works in Sarawak.

HSL will use the balanced cantilever method to build the 1.9km-long reinforced concrete structure. The scheme involves substantial marine piling works using 1,500mm-diameter steel pipe piles.

The contract period is 48 months and site work is expected to get under way in May.
