The work was delayed after one of the bolts on the catwalk failed last October, prompting the replacement of all the remaining catwalk bolts.

The superstructure of the new bridge, which has a main span of 1,145m and a deck just 18.6m wide, is being built across the Rombak Fjord by Sichuan Road & Bridge Group, which won the contract for the steel supply and construction. Installation of the cables is expected to take at least two months, and cable compaction a further three months, depending on the weather conditions at the site. Completion of the bridge is now being predicted for summer 2018.
