The crossing of the Richmond River is one of two major bridges on the 155km Woolgoolga to Ballina section of the project. The project involves the detailed design and construction of the bridge, which will have a vertical clearance above the Richmond River of about 15m.

The other major bridge on the Woolgooga to Ballina section is a 1.5km crossing of Clarence River being built by Acciona Ferrovial Joint Venture.

“More than 100 bridges, including new or replacement bridges over existing creeks, underpasses and overpasses, will be built as part of this transformational and life-saving project, which has already helped halve fatalities on the Pacific Highway since the upgrade commenced,” said federal minister for infrastructure and transport Darren Chester.

The Australian and New South Wales governments are jointly funding the Woolgoolga to Ballina upgrade on an 80:20 basis.
