The bridge would carry Interstate 5 and provide a link to the neighbouring state of Oregon.
The original project stalled in 2014 after costs spiralled, though there were propsals two years ago to ressurect plans for a new bridge (link opens in new tab).
Washington's senate transportation committee plans to allocate US$450 million for the project. The state's governor has already proposed US$17.5 million in funding for work to get the project under way.
