Defensa Civil Colombiana said yesterday that 10 people had died and three had been injured.
Photographs accompanying local reports show the collapse of an entire pylon and substantial section of deck. It appears that a considerable amount of the deck of the cable-stayed bridge across a valley had already been completed.
The victims are workers who were performing drainage work for the bridge in Chirajara on the Bogotá Villavicencio road, said Defensa Civil Colombian. It added that the total number of people working there had not yet been verified.
