The city's River Parks Authority (RPA) has approved a proposal that will enable it to work with the city and Gathering Place to develop the 365m-long Gateay Bridge over the Arkansas River.
A design submitted by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates and Schlaich Bergermann Partner was chosen last year (link opens in new tab). The bridge's has been designed to be contemporary and complement its surroundings including the Gathering Place riverfront park, while paying homage to Tulsa’s past in the form of stiffened arch spans also found in the 23rd Street Bridge and the Route 66 Bridge.
