The new total authorised contract value for the joint venture of Kiewit and Hoffman has been set out following pre-construction work by the JV. Sound Transit negotiated the maximum allowable construction cost with the Kiewit-Hoffman last month.

The bridge will be upgraded as part of the Seattle to South Bellevue segment within the 22km East Link Extension.

The Seattle to South Bellevue construction contract involves two stations as well as elevated and at grade track, including 1.6km of track on the Homer M Hadley floating bridge.

The contract uses the heavy civil general contractor/construction manager(GC/CM) contracting method. This method, which brings in a contractor early in the project, was selected for reasons including complex scheduling, phasing requirements and extensive interfaces with other contractors.

As part of pre-construction services, the contractor identified post-tensioning of the floating bridge as critical early work for completion of the project on schedule.
