LB Foster has won the New York State Bridge Authority contract, which involves the bridge’s north span. The company had supplied bridge deck materials in 2013 during the rehabilitation of the south span. The Newburgh-Beacon Bridge was built in 1963 and crosses the Hudson River.

The current contract involves almost 29,000m2 of steel grid bridge deck panels manufactured at the LB Foster's facility in Bedford, Pennsylvania. Concrete will be cast in place as the panels are installed.

LB Foster is working closely with the general contractor, Yonkers Construction, to deliver the ready-to-install deck materials at times chosen to minimise disruptions to traffic.

"Steel grid decking offers efficient installation, long-term performance and low life cycle costs over competing products," said Stephen Spragale, general manager of LB Foster Fabricated Bridge Products.
