The busy Northeast Corridor railway network will enjoy a massive cash injection from the Biden-Harris Administration to modernise critical infrastructure.

The funding, totalling nearly US$10 billion, will pay for Amtrak infrastructure projects, including seven involving bridges. These are:

  • Susquehanna River Rail Bridge project (up to US$2 billion)
  • Connecticut River Bridge replacement (up to US$827 million)
  • Dock Bridge rehabilitation (up to US$300 million)
  • Sawtooth Bridges replacement (up to US$133 million)
  • Pelham Bay Bridge replacement (up to US$58 million)
  • Gunpowder River bridge replacement (up to US$30 million)
  • Bush River Bridge replacement (up to US$19 million)

Connecticut Department of Transport (CTDOT) has also benefited from funding for four bridge projects:

  • Walk Bridge replacement (up to US$465 million)
  • Devon Bridge replacement (up to US$246 million)
  • Devon Bridge interim repairs (up to US$119 million)
  • Saugatuck River Bridge replacement (up to US$23 million)

The Federal Railroad Administration is expected to release further grant awards before the new year.
