Governor Mike Parson has announced that budget savings have freed up US$350 million to allow Missouri Department of Transportation to begin upgrades to the bridges, which are all in need critical need repair or replacement. A further US$50 million has been made available for a programme to assist cities and counties with addressing the most serious infrastructure needs in local areas.

The announcement was made during Parson’s ‘State of the State’ address to a joint session of the Missouri General Assembly. The speech focused on two core priorities, workforce development and infrastructure. Parsons said that these are the right priorities to ensure Missouri thrives both now and into the future. “I firmly believe the people of Missouri are eager to have leadership that will propose bold ideas and is willing to tackle tough issues that have been put off too long,” said Parson.
